Susan L Tyler

A woman whose life was marked by resilience, kindness, and a profound devotion to her family, passed away on March 14, 2026, at Emerson Hospital. Born on March 9, 1964, in Schenectady, New York, Susan's journey was one of remarkable strength and unwavering spirit.

From her early days, Susan faced challenges that many could not imagine. Born with Spinal Bifida and Hydrocephalus, given little hope of surviving beyond a few hours then days, she defied all predictions with grace and determination.  Her life blossomed into a testament to positivity and courage, inspiring all who knew her.  Susan never allowed her health to define her; instead, she embraced life fully, radiating laughter and warmth to those around her.

Susan was a proud graduate of Nashoba Regional High School in 1983 and loved keeping up with her classmates. She went on to earn an associate's degree in liberal arts from Middlesex Community College in 1985. She had a brief career as a TTY operator for AT &T where she enjoyed facilitating communication and connecting people. In her desire for independence, she was on a bowling league, was an assistant Girl Scout leader, learned to drive in a car equipped with just hand controls, and lived in her own place at what is now Elizabeth Brook apartments.

She had a big heart that cherished many small joys. A lover of cats, Susan found comfort and companionship in their presence. She was an artist at heart, known for her exquisite, detailed needlework…a craft she pursued with patience and love.  Her fascination with the enchanting world of "The Wizard of Oz" made her a devoted collector of all things related to the beloved film, a passion that reflected her imaginative and gentle soul.

Above all, Susan was a beacon of kindness and devotion to all who knew her. She held her family and friends close. She is survived by her sister, Carolyn Tyler Knight, and husband Merle, of Vermont, her brother, Andrew A. Tyler of Virginia, as well as six cherished nephews and nieces: Joshua, Steven, Molley, Seth, Andrew, and Meredith. Her warmth extended to sharing photos of and hearing all about her four grandnephews and one grandniece.

Susan was preceded in death by both parents, Allen A. Tyler and Janet L (Smalley) Tyler, and will eventually rest with them in the Lamoille View Cemetery in Johnson, Vt.

Susan's story is one of triumph over adversity, filled with grace, love, and an enduring light that will continue to shine in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her. Her memory is a treasured gift, reminding us all of the power of resilience and the beauty found in kindness.

A Celebration of Susan's Life will be held in the sanctuary on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 4 PM. followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall at the First Parish Church of Stow and Action, 353 Great Road, Stow, MA.

Local Graveside Services will be held at 10 AM, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, in the Lamoille View Cemetery in Johnson, VT.
