Mamie M. Sweetser

STOWE: Mamie Moodie Sweetser (86), lifetime resident of Stowe, Vermont, passed away on January 1, 2024, after a battle with dementia/Alzheimer's at the Village at White River Junction Assisted Living.

Mamie was born on July 31, 1937 to Roger and Ruth Moodie. She went on to graduate from Stowe High School in 1955.

Mamie married William (Bill) Sweetser on June 13, 1959. They were married for over 59 years and had 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Family was extremely important to Mamie, and her role as mother/grandmother gave her much pride and joy. She went out of her way to prioritize quality time, including taking grandchildren on camping trips and decorating "over the top" for every holiday, creating lasting memories for friends and family. She worked various jobs throughout her life, including Girard's Restaurant, Moriarty Hats, Harrington's Store, selling Avon and housecleaning until she retired.

Mamie was proud of belonging to the Stowe community, where she served on the Stowe Fire Department Auxiliary and enjoyed helping with Stowe Community Church fundraisers. She also volunteered at The Manor Nursing Home in Morrisville, facilitating tea parties and antique shows for the patients. Mamie enjoyed a variety of pastimes, including gardening, sewing/crafts, cake decorating, bowling, camping in Maine, and hosting sledding parties for family and friends. She was a source of inspiration and will be deeply missed by each person her life touched.

Mamie is survived by her children - Laurie Sneed (Danny) of Stowe, VT, Dale Sweetser (Heather) of Wasilla, AK, Jackie Sweeter (Rickey Adams) of Eden, VT and Marsha Bradford (Craig) of Roseville, CA;  her grandchildren - Miranda (Sneed) Summer, Natasha Sweetser, Jeremy Sneed, Whitney Adams, Taylor (Adams) Lockwood, Shelby Adams, Jake Bradford, Cooper Adams and Alec Bradford; and her great-grandchildren - Lucas, Josea, Kara, Maddux, Kailyn, Peyton, Tiegen, Ava, Aleyana and Uriah. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Robert Sweetser, and sisters-in-law, Rita Moodie and Diane Deal, as well as many nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.  She is pre-deceased by her husband, William Sweetser, her parents, Roger and Ruth Moodie, her sister, Arlene Tatro, and her brothers Roland and Stanton Moodie.

A Celebration of Life for Mamie will be held at 11AM., on Saturday, May 18, 2024, in the Riverbank Cemetery in Stowe followed by a gathering at 1 PM., at the Commodore's Restaurant in Stowe.
