Julie G. Hay

Danvers, MA: Julie Gwyneth Hay, 60 of Danvers, MA, died June 3, 2025, at the New England Home for the Deaf, where she had become a beloved member of their deaf community. Her daughter, sister and niece were by her side.

She was born on October 22, 1964, in Hardwick; the youngest of four children born to the late George W. Hay Sr., and Elizabeth "Betty" (Rathburn) Hay. Julie attended the Austine School for the Deaf in Brattleboro. She graduated with the class of 1984 and continued her education at a college in Minnesota, where she received an associate's degree in computer science.

Life was difficult for Julie, with her hearing impairment, but that did not stop her. As a young lady, she worked at Camp Wapanacki, during the summer months. Following her education Julie was employed by the State of Vermont, where she worked on computers, and while there she taught her co-workers sign language.

She had a very gentle soul and a special bond with her children. She was a loving mother and is survived by her two children, Krystina Forkey of St. Johnsbury and James Rodger of Barre; a son-in-law, Scott Forkey Sr. of St. Johnsbury; a grandson, Scott  Forkey Jr. of St. Johnsbury; three siblings: George William "Buddy"  Hay Jr. and his wife Melissa Hay of Hardwick, Lauri Hay, and her husband Michael Cochran of McIndoe Falls, and Raymond Hay of East Hardwick; A special niece, Emily Cochran of Haverhill MA; one aunt, other nieces, nephews and cousins.

She enjoyed spending time with family, holiday gatherings, the beaches of Maine, puzzles, paintings and animals - especially dolphins. She was an avid Red Sox fan and could often be seen in her Red Sox cap supporting her favorite team. She was an inspirational human being, a caring soul to the people who were lucky enough to have met her grace and a true fighter who loved life and fought for that love until the day of her passing.

Graveside Services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, July 12, 2025, in the Fairview Cemetery in Hardwick.
