Johnathan E. "John" Gates

HARDWICK: Johnathan was born March 2,1972, in Morrisville, to the late Robert Gates and the late Bonnie (Gates) Rossi. His father passed away when Johnathan was 16, and his mother died a year ago this month.

Johnathan was also known as "JED", a nickname given to him by his aunt, Patty Gates. Johnathan Edward Gates passed away peacefully, on Sunday December 3rd, 2023, with family by his side, at UVM Medical Center in Burlington. He was a beloved father to Johnathan Robert Gates and beloved brother to Connie Gates-Wallace and Carolyn Bowers (Gates). Uncle to Marissa Gates of Ohio, nephew to his aunts, Linda Mae Clow (Rod), Sharon Marchetti (Mike) of Palm Coast, FL, Barbara Keough and Patricia Gates, both of Florida. His uncle Reginald Gates and wife, of New Hampshire. Several cousins and numerous friends and co-workers. He worked for All Metals in Hardwick for over 20 years. In his younger years, he was employed by Gates Salvage off and on for a few years. He was currently employed by Sugarman's in Hardwick. The things that his family will miss the most is his sense of humor and his kind heart. He worked alongside his son. They were known as Big John and Little John.

Johnathan was 4 years younger than his sister, Connie, who has wonderful memories of him, especially when their father thought they should settle their differences by boxing.  Connie ended up sucker punching with a right hook to his nose.

Johnathan knew everything about cars. He got his license at 16 and could drive a stick shift. He could be hot headed but had a gentle soul. We pray that he is at peace and reunited with all those we have lost.

Johnathan was predeceased by his father in 1988, his mother in December of 2022 and her twin sister (Millie) four days later: his maternal grandmother in 2021 and his paternal grandparents many years ago.

Survivors include, a son, Johnathan Robert Gates, and his companion (Howard) of Hardwick; sister, Connie Gates-Wallace (Rick) of Johnson, an older sister, Carolyn Bowers (Gates) of Hyde Park; his companion, Laurie, of Hardwick and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins and many friends, as well as his loving pets, Lady Bug, Garfield, and Clementine

All Servies will be held in the spring of 2024.
