Francis George Favreau

Francis Favreau, 89, of Morrisville, passed away on August 30 after a long battle with Parkinson's and Heart Disease.

Born in Hyde Park, Vermont, on November 14, 1934 to George and Gertrude Favreau, Francis spent 11 years on the family farm before moving to the village of Hyde Park. He graduated from Lamoille Central Academy and joined the Navy 1952 where he served on the USS Midway until 1955. After his time in the Navy, he attended the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology and returned to Hyde Park where he began a long and successful career at Copley Hospital. In July of 1959 he married the love of his life, Agnes Coolum.

Francis served his community for over 40 years at Copley Hospital, initially as the one-man laboratory and culminating as Vice President of Clinical Services. At the same time he served as Town Health Officer for 20 of those years and his work as health officer was instrumental in the development of the first tenants' rights legislation for the State of Vermont.

After retiring from Copley, Francis continued to serve the town of Morrisville in the Town Offices as Lister, Justice of the Peace, and researcher. He once said, "I just do whatever they ask me to do."

In the mid 1970s and early 1980s Francis was Assistant Scoutmaster in the Morrisville Boy Scouts and later remained involved with the troop in various emeritus capacities.

Francis was also known as the resident historian of the town of Morristown. He published books on the history of Morrisville and Copley Hospital and was keeper of hundreds of historical photographs. He enjoyed giving presentations of the history of Morrisville wherever there was an interested audience. He helped to inventory and map all of the Morrisville cemeteries. In addition, Francis worked with a committee to update the history of Hyde Park, Vermont.

A man of great faith, Francis also served Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish (formerly Holy Cross Parish) as a member of the of the Parish Council, grounds keeper, eucharistic minister, and usher. He also updated and computerized records of births, marriages, and deaths of Holy Cross parishioners.

Francis was predeceased by his wife, Agnes, and daughter-in-law Lynne (Densmore) Favreau of Haverhill, Massachusetts. He is survived by his children Mark and wife Nancie Ravenel of East Middlebury, Vermont; Brenda and her husband Paul Marcoux of Hollis Center, Maine; Paul of Haverhill, Massachusetts and Neil and wife Zoe Gascon of Lyndonville, Vermont. Francis had seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Calling hours will be September 9 at the Crosby Center in Morrisville from 5 to 8 PM. His funeral mass will be held at Most Holy Name of Jesus Church at 11 AM on Tuesday the 10th. Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Agnes Favreau Award at All Saints Catholic Academy in Morrisville, Vermont or the Copley Hospital Development Fund.
