Alfred L. "Coach" Johnson, Jr.

MORRISVILLE: Alfred Lloyd "Coach" Johnson, Jr., 66, of Morrisville died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 2, 2026, in Morrisville.

He was born February 23, 1960, in Philadelphia, PA; the son of Alfred Lloyd Johnson, Sr, and Claire (Spann) Johnson.  He graduated in 1979, from Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia, PA. He continued his education at Elizabeth City State University and later earned a master's degree from Concordia University.

He married Wanda R. Holloway in Cape May, New Jersey.

Coach Johnson joined Vermont State University Athletic Department in 2021. He was the Head Men's Basketball Coach and Assistant Athletics Director. Coach Johnson was well known throughout the area for his commitment and success of students and to his contributions to the community. A man of focus, sincere kindness, and a will to succeed. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Survivors include: his mother Claire Johnson, of Roxbury, PA; his wife Wanda R. Johnson, of Morrisville; two sons: Timothy D. Johnson and Tyreek Johnson, both of Philadelphia, PA; three stepchildren: Eboni Bah  and Auzunay Crosby, both of Austin, TX., and Manuel Smith Jr. and his wife Nicole Smith, of Philadelphia; siblings Jeffrey Johnson of Philadelphia,  Timothy Johnson and his spouse Calencia of Maryland, Caleef Johnson, of Philadelphia; grandchildren: Saige Johnson, Manuel Smith III, Meelah Smith, Veyonna Sims and Aniya Norris, all of Philadelphia; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Alfred was predeceased by his father, Alfred Johnson, Sr. and a sister Karen Johnson James.

A Celebration of Life honoring Coach Johnson will be held at 1 PM, on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the Vermont State University at Johnson, Shape Building, Gymnasium.
